Art Residency: Puppet Theatre’s skills & events

Spring 2010  

The Arab puppet theatre foundation invites you to participate in the art residency specialized in Puppet Theatre.   This residency serves as an intensive training for people interested in the different fields of the dolls theatre’s domain including creativity, education field and social work.

The residency lasts for three weeks in Beirut – Lebanon during the spring of 2010, in which participants work with local and global artists and experienced people in the field of Puppet Theatre.  

The residency focuses on the arts of Puppet Theatre along with the origins and the present of this kind of ancient theatre arts, its types, dolls’ making, ways of moving them, light and sound, direction and acting, the story teller, scenario development and how to initiate local companies for Puppet Theatre.  

At the end of the residency participants will work, with trainers’ guidance, on developing and performing play dolls’ shows in the form of a concluding festival in Beirut.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Fellows (Scholarships for Arab students at international universities)

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation offers graduate scholarships for Arab students through its Fellows Programme. The Programme aims at developing the knowledge capabilities of talented youth across the Arab World, by offering scholarships to pursue Master’s Degree programmes in Business Administration (MBA), Public Administration (MPA), Public Policy (MPP) and Finance at leading international universities.

Productive grants for creative projects of Arab youth 2010

 

The program aims at encouraging and supporting a new generation of Arab artists and authors, and that’s by funding their first projects, in addition to providing them with artistic productive and administrative advice and helping them producing and promoting their creative works.

Applications will be accepted from young artists and authors from all Arab countries to produce creative works in all artistic and literary fields. Each grant will vary between $ 500-5000 or equivalent in Arab countries. Al Mawred Al Thakafi foundation welcomes applications from females.

The applications of those who had productive grants previously from Al Mawred Al Thakafi foundation will be rejected unless after 3 years from the date they received the grant.

 

Terms for applying for productive grants:

1-    The applicant should be aged between 15-35 by the 1st of January.  Applications of whose older will not be considered.

2-    Application must be in Arabic on the specified form on our website www.mawred.org

3-    The application must include a detailed description of the artistic or literal project, with no less than 3 pages.

4-    The application must include the CV of the applicant.

5-    The application must include a model of former work of the applicant; such as an audio or optical tape, photograph or written forms. Applications with no former work will not be taken into consideration.

6-    In case applying for the fields of video, theater or music, recorded parts from previous works must be detached with the form submitted.

7-    The application must include a detailed budget for the artistic or literal project to be achieved, and that should be by the local current of the applicants’ country, noting that the grant can’t be used for buying devices or equipment.

8-    The application must include a photo of the identity card, passport or birth certificate.

9-    For those under 18, the application must include the approval of his/her parent for applying for a grant. It also should include a photo of his/her parent identity card.

10- The project applied for will be produces after the 10th January 2010 and not before.

11- If the budget exceeds $ 500, the applicant must clarify other sources for funding the project applied for.

 

 

The deadline for accepting applications is on the 30th September 2010 and applications will not be considered after that date.

RWI Capacity Advancement Fellowship in Extractives

The Revenue Watch Institute (RWI) and the Oil for Development Program (OfD) of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation they pleased to announce that they are accepting applications for the 2010 Capacity Advancement Fellowship in Extractives (CA Fellows) program. The deadline for application is March 19th, 2010. The program seeks to broaden and deepen the role of the next generation of civil society activists in promoting the better management of oil, gas and minerals for the public good.  The fellowship is open to civil society activists from the following OfD countries: Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ecuador, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Iraq, Madagascar, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, São Tomé e Principe, Sudan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Uganda and Vietnam.

The Human Rights Essay Award

About the Award

The Human Rights Essay Award is an annual competition sponsored by the Academy and seeks to stimulate the production of scholarly work in international human rights law. Participants have the flexibility to choose any subject related to the assigned topic.

The Honor Jury deciding the Award will be comprised of professionals with a recognized expertise in international human rights law. The best articles may be published in the American University International Law Review.

The Academy will grant two Awards, one for the best article in English and one for the best article in Spanish. The Award in each case will consist of:

* a scholarship to the Specialized Human Rights Program*
* travel expenses to Washington D.C.
* housing at the university dorms
* a per diem for living expenses

Eligibility and Requirements


* Hold a law degree and have demonstrated experience or interest in international human rights law.
* Submit only one unpublished legal article/paper written in English or Spanish, solely by the participant.
* Articles must not exceed 35 pages in length, including footnotes, and must be double spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font, in letter size paper (8.5 x11) with 1 inch margins all around..
* Articles can only be submitted via email to hracademy(at)wcl.american.edu in Microsoft Word format.
* The deadline to submit articles is February 1, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. E.S.T.
* Winners will be announced on April 1, 2010 through our Web site.

UN-HABITAT Urban Youth Fund

Youth-led organizations in developing countries working to improve the lives of young people and their communities can now seek financing for their projects through the UN-HABITAT Urban Youth Fund. The Fund will provide grants for innovative projects that promote employment, good governance, shelter and secure tenure.

Only applicants aged 15-32 from cities in developing countries can qualify for a grant. Support will be provided primarily for those working to improve slum conditions and to raise opportunities for young people growing up in poverty. Projects encouraging gender equality or involving partnerships with the government or the private sector are particularly welcome. Small development initiatives are eligible for grants of up to USD 5,000, and larger projects up to USD 25,000.
